5K RULES AND REGULATIONS

IPICO Timing System

IPICO technology will record your official Run For Freedom 5K time.  Only runners will be timed.  At packet pick-up, you will receive a small, plastic timing tag strap that attaches to your shoelace.  Your time starts when you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line.  As a result, the tag tabulates your “net time” -- the actual time it takes YOU to complete the course.

DO NOT forget to attach your tag to your shoe on race day; NO TAG, NO TIME.
  1. DO NOT run with the IPICO tag in your hand or any place other than on your shoe.
  2. The timing system is contained within mats that you will run over – if the tag is anywhere other than your shoe you risk not being timed properly.
  3. The “net time” will be used to determine all age category winners. Awards will be given for overall fastest female and male, as well as the top three female and male finishers in the following age divisions:  Overall female, overall male; 12-under; 13-15; 16-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70+
  4. All tags must be returned after you cross the finish line. Volunteers will be at the finish line to assist you in removing the tags. Participants will be charged $30 for lost or unreturned tags.

Run Course Information

The run course is out and back and is along city roads which will be shut down for the duration of the event.  Important points to remember:
  • For the safety of all participants, please listen carefully to the pre-race instructions.
  • There will be orange cones to divide the road, as well as orange markings on the street to assist you. Also, volunteer Course Marshalls and police will be on the course to make sure you know where to go. Please familiarize yourself with the 5K Course Map to make for a smooth, safe experience.
  • There will be mile markers on the course at miles 1, 2 and 3.
  • Look for the volunteers removing timing tags after you cross the finish line. DON’T FORGET to remove your tag. In the event that a tag is not returned, you will be charged a $30 fee for its replacement.
  • Results will be posted as soon as soon as practicable after runners begin crossing the finish line. Results will be updated throughout the race until every runner finishes. The awards ceremony will begin shortly after the end of the race. Race results will also be available on-line at www.onlineraceresults.com
  • HAVE FUN!!

**WORD OF CAUTION**

Participants in the 5K run are going to be running past the numerous motorcycles participating in the Ride For Freedom. The Ride For Freedom motorcyclists are going to "salute" the participants as they run past by revving their engines in support. This is a truly unique and exhilarating experience. However, the sound produced by the motorcycles can be quite loud and runners may want to take necessary precautions if they have any sensitivity to loud noises (ear plugs).
